Are there any home made marinade recipes that actually tenderize steak? I’ve tried a few that have a nice taste, but even after marinating overnight in the fridge they aren’t tender.

I know of a few store-bought marinades that turn beef into mush (oops! should have believed them when they said no more than an hour) in a few hours, so it doesn’t seem so outrageous to think there’s something home made that will tenderize something over night, but I can’t find anything or even a “secret” ingredient that will do it?
